Introduction Violent crime will always be a problem; just because Canada doesn’t face high rates of violent crime in comparison to other countries doesn’t deem it an unimportant issue. My knowledge about this topic, violent crime, has come from a variety of resources that will be discussed as this paper progresses. The crime control policies in Alberta and/or Canada to my knowledge are having a positive impact, but more could always be done. Overall, I believe an enhanced proactive approach is needed. The youth of our generation need to be educated more about the justice system, violent crimes, and risks of the gang life at an earlier age. Problem of Violent Crime In Canada Violent crime in Canada isn’t too big of a problem in comparison to other countries. In Canada citizens are generally happy to see the police. Rates of corruption are nowhere near what they are in other countries. It is reasonable to say violent crime isn’t as prevalent as it is in America because of the strict gun laws Canada imposes. Also, United States of America has a serious gang problem in comparison to Canada, part of the reason being the shipment of drugs from the southern border. Some examples of violent crimes are assault, aggravated assault, sexual based offences, murder (first and second degree), kidnapping, and robbery. In recent years violent offences has been on the rise in Canada. The types of individuals who commit violent crimes range from gang members to substance abusers. A few weeks ago I heard Owl Citys smash hit, â€Å"Fireflies,† on the radio for the first time. It was the unfamiliar sound of a kind voice complementing a mass of electronic instruments.
